Shoe Order

If your shoes have mouths at the ends, then I think they're saying goodbye to flamenco and hello to shoe retirement! And perfect timing! This week Karen will be placing the order for fabulous flamenco shoes direct from Spain. Learn to dance in authentic Spanish shoes. If you are interested, be sure to get in touch with Karen by Friday, September 24.

Don Quixote

In the mood for some theatre? Why don't you take a night off to watch Don Quixote presented by the Arts Club Theatre Company! You will be able to watch the story of a beloved character in Spanish literature and see Karen's choreography in action. Don't miss it! The show runs from Sept. 23- Oct. 23

Clasico Free Trial

Hello fabulous people! I have an update about clasico español. Tonight's and next Tuesday night's classes will be free for you to try. Come on down to dance and try your hand at castanets. If you don't have a pair, don't worry! Karen has extras that you can use. Still not sure?! Well here is a video of Graciela Ríos Saiz playing the castanets. This could be you one day!

Clasico Español

Hello everyone! We're halfway through the first week and it's great to be back in full swing. Haven't signed up yet? Check out Karen's Clasico Español class. In this class you will learn to dance in a style that can best be described as 'ballet-flamenco'. It is a graceful style that will help you to achieve the coordination to play castanets while dancing, and to perfect your turns and form. There are spaces available and I highly recommend it. Curious about what a ballet-style of flamenco with castanets looks like?! Click here for a sample on YouTube (about halfway through it's got a bit of an exotic touch to it but most of the dancing is a good example of what clasico is). New Term Today

Hola hola! The new fall term at Karen Flamenco has begun. If you haven't registered yet (and want to), you are not too late! Don't hesitate to get in touch. You can also check the website to see which classes are available and any updates.

New to flamenco? There is a detailed description of what each level entails that will let you decide which one you feel is right for you. If you are still unsure, you can talk to Karen (she'll have the answer for you).

Fall Term

A new semester! A new poster! Hola todos! I hope summer has been going well and that it has been filled with a healthy dose of flamenco fun! If you haven't registered yet, do! The fall semester begins on Sept. 6th.

Zapatos

¡Hola! With August winding down, we are getting closer and closer to the new fall semester of flamenco instruction here at Karen Flamenco. Going through the mental checklist of dance supplies, I realized that I am in desperate need for new shoes (you can practically see my toes peeking out).
Did you have the same thought? Well, it's your lucky blog post! There's no need to panic, search or pay for an expensive ticket to Spain just for shoes (but if you can afford to pay for a ticket using the shoes as an excuse, why not?)! You can get Menkes flamenco shoes from Karen's. Check out the store on the website or drop by the studio for details!¡Hasta luego!

Flamenco and Shakespeare

If you have a chance this summer, watch Much Ado About Nothing (click) at Bard on the Beach and you will get to see a flamenco flare in the classic Shakespeare comedy thanks to our own, Karen Pitkethly! This was definitely a whole new way to experience sevillanas: actors on stage, dancing while speaking in Shakespearean verse! Here's a peak at the playbill (click for larger image)...

Tangos Por Fiesta

¡Hola todos! Starting next week, there will be a four day workshop focusing on tangos por fiesta. Come and learn one of Spain's festive dances and you will be able to show off your brand new dance moves at a flamenco feria! :)(image source)
